Winter Sing

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Blessings to you and your families this holiday season and may the new year bring you everlasting peace and happiness. Cherish this beautiful time with family and friends and enjoy the ever heartwarming Christmas spirit.  See you all in 2015!

Got Books?!

A HUGE kudos goes out to both the Hayward Primary and the Hayward Intermediate Schools as they donated 3,219 books in all to the LCO Boys & Girls Club. Wow! How awesome is that!?!

Reminders

REMINDERS Just a few reminders for next week! Monday, December 22 is our Christmas Party. You got a letter home that told who was on the list to bring in a treat for the party. We will be decorating cookies as well and you child knows what he or she is responsible for bringing in (either frosting or sprinkles). This was worked out with the peanut butter/jelly partners. The students are also welcome to wear pajamas, slippers, bring blankets and/or pillows. We will be watching the movie Frozen and making a fun Christmas tree ornament! Tuesday, December 23 is the last day before Christmas break and is also our Pioneer Day Celebration. Remember the students are invited to dress as a pioneer if they would like, but this is not required. They may also bring their lunch in the old-fashioned way if they would like, but once again, this is not required. We will be having 3-4 speakers coming in to talk about various pioneer like trades, doing fun pioneer crafts and playing some pioneer ga...

iRead iRock

So far the HIS students have read 81 million words. Way to go! Keep up the great work. We are almost to our goal of 100 million words.

Keep Warm, Illness and Head Lice

Bundle your children up for these upcoming cold winter months. We got outside everyday that it is above zero degrees. Warm coats, snow pants, hats, boots and mittens are expected. We continue to experience a lot of illness this school year. Thank you for encouraging hand washing, healthy eating and plenty of rest. If your child is sick and is running a fever, please use your best judgement as to whether or not you should send them to school. The students are always able to make up the work they missed. This year we are expecting an increasing number of head lice cases. It is helpful if families frequently do a head check at home. If lice is found, please treat immediately. If you need assistance or have questions, please contact our school.

Still Need...

For Pioneer Day we are still in need of heavy whipping cream, yarn, plastic knives and glass jars with lids (used to make butter with the heavy whipping cream). If you are willing to donate these items, please let me know or send them in with your child. Items we DO NOT NEED: ice cream maple syrup dixie cups  spoons  soap

Pioneer Project/Day Reminder

Pioneer Project is DUE Friday, December 19, 2014!  Pioneer Day is Tuesday, December 23, 2014! Please come prepared!  At this time we are not asking for any volunteers or parent helpers. The Pioneer Day is going to be a great experience for the kiddos. :)

Winter Sing

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to the Winter Sing last night. Mrs. Wood did a wonderful job organizing and conducting the program and the students did a phenomenal job performing. Special kudos goes out to Ali and Miranda who had speaking parts! Way to go kiddos!

Midterms

Hello Parents! You will find a midterm report card in you child's blue assignment notebook. This is a quick snapshot of how your child is doing in reading, writing, math and the core values so far in the 2nd quarter. I would like to put a disclaimer out there though. You will see a 1, 2, 3, or, 4 next to most of the boxes. These scores are purely based on what I have so far in the grade book. I DO NOT have all of the grades in the grade book nor do I plan on having them in before Christmas break and there are quite a few more assessments that the students will take before the grading period is over. So, please be aware that your child's grade may change by the time the end of 2nd quarter/1st semester comes. If you have any comments, questions or concerns my door is always open. Please email me or call me at ext. 3950 to talk or even set up a meeting. Thank you!

Reminders from the HIS office

Please bundle up your children for these cold winter months! We go outside everyday that is above zero degrees. Warm coats, hats, boots, and mittens expected. (FYI: Mrs. Cummings requires her students to wear all of these warm clothes when they leave her room to either go on the bus or if they are getting picked up) Please place phone calls to the office regarding after school plans BEFORE  2:00 whenever possible.

Thanksgiving Break

The HCSD will be closed the week of November 24th-28th for Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Monday, December 1st. See you all there! I can't believe the holiday season is upon us already!

Deer Heart

Maddie Woller brought in a deer heart to show us in honor of the Wisconsin deer rifle season starting tomorrow. It was pretty cool to see it. Ask you students what they thought of it. Good luck to all hunters! Shoot straight!

Free Time Friday 11/21--Electronics

I am allowing electronics to be brought in to the classroom tomorrow for our free-time Friday as it is the last day before Thanksgiving Break. Please remind your student though that if they do bring in a device, I am not responsible for it. They are responsible for the device if it happen to get broken, stolen or lost. Thank you!

Warm Clothes

Winter is upon us! Please make sure that your student is prepared with snow pants, coats, hats, gloves, boots and anything else that would keep them very warm. I also am requiring the kiddos to wear at least boots, jackets, hats, and gloves at the end of the day to the bus or pick-up. This is truly just a safety issue. Thank you!!!

HCSD CLOSING

THE HCSD WILL BE CLOSING AT OR AROUND 11:30 TODAY DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER. WE WILL BE SERVING LUNCH TODAY AND STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AFTER EVERYONE HAS EATEN. PLEASE CALL THE SCHOOL IF YOU HAVE ALTERNATIVE PLANS FOR YOUR STUDENT(S). THANK YOU!

1st Quarter Reward Party

The 4th grade will be having their 1st Quarter Reward Party on Monday. We will be having a dodgeball tournament (pod #1 vs. pod #2) in the morning and then in the afternoon students get a choice of either a game room, craft room or a Just Dance on the Wii room. Students who are able to participate have shown they can be responsible, be respectful and be safe during the whole 1st quarter. Those who are allowed to go also have 75% of their tickets for the quarter. Those who do not have 75% of their tickets for the quarter do not get to participate as a consequence of losing too many tickets due to not completing assignments, bad choices/behavior, etc. and will be required to do their make-up work in another room.

Veterans Day Essay Winners

Congratulations to Michael Isham and Zach Laier for having their essays chosen as winners. Also, kudos to everyone else who turned in an essay. Good Job! You hard work did not go unnoticed. We are proud of you for learning about Veterans Day and those who serve or have served. :)

Spelling and Vocabulary

Dear Families! Starting this past week you may have noticed that you student brought home a list of 20 spelling words. In class we have begun doing spelling work and vocabulary work. The 15 spelling words are words that have a common spelling pattern/rule which we are learning about for a specific week. The 5 Bonus/Vocabulary Words are from a list of words that all 4th graders should know by the end of the year. The lists are handed out on Monday and the test will be given on Friday. A simple spelling test is given for all words and then a vocabulary (matching word to definition and then using the word correctly in a sentence) is given for the 5 vocabulary words. Your student is responsible for studying these words at school and at home. I have built in word work stations here at school where they have a checklist of responsibilities and activities that must be completed by the end of the week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Flu Bug

The flu bug has hit the HIS full force and we have been sending children home due to vomiting left and right. If your child is sick...please do not send them to school...we would rather them get healthy and make up the work than to come to school ill and pass the sickness on to other students and staff. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. STAYING HEALTHY 'LIKE A CANE!'

If you did not get a chance to see the Fox 21 News report on the possible referendum the Hayward Schools is requesting here is the link: Fox 21 News Report

Weekend Meals

Unfortunately it has been brought to our attention as teachers that the students who are receiving the weekend meals every Friday are not respecting the program or the bag of goodies they get to bring home. The bus drivers have brought to our attention that the students are opening the bags and wasting the food. While they are not only wasting the meals, they are making a huge mess on the bus. This is a serious issue. All of the students in the Intermediate and Primary buildings were spoken to today by Mrs. Lee and were given strict instructions on how to handle their meals every Friday. If we get more complaints from the bus drivers, the students responsible will lose their weekend meals.

TV!!

Mrs. Marienfeld's classroom had an unexpected visit today from Fox 21 News. They came in to the room and filmed a math lesson (per Mrs. Lee's permission) that she and the students were going through for the day. We are not exactly sure why they came in to film, but have been told that it will air tonight on Fox 21. If you are free during their normal news casting hours, please tune in and check it out! :) What an honor to have one of our very own 4th grade classrooms on TV!!!

Veteran's Day Essay

Good Afternoon! Your student brought home a packet of information pertaining to the Veteran's Day Essay Contest going on right now. It is due November 4th. Two winners will be chosen to read their essays to the school and community during the Veteran's Day Assembly on November 11th. Please encourage your student to write an essay. I have a few turned in already and they are really good. The students got the instructions on what to do, but basically they are answering the overarching question of "What does Veteran's Day mean to you?" Good Luck!

What's up?

This week was a very busy week here in 4th grade. Wednesday was an Early Release day, but we also had a special visit from the Hayward Fire Department. Three firemen/women came to show and talk to our students about the importance of fire safety. They seemed to have a great time learning about fire prevention and much, much more. Mrs. Marienfeld even got to show the students how to climb the ladder on the truck up to the big bucket! She said it was awesome. While learning about Fire Prevention, we also learned about Cranberries...a Wisconsin tradition and favorite. We learned about how cranberries are harvested and we even got to visit the Zawistowski Cranberry Marsh on Thursday. It was a great field trip and we all really enjoyed being outside seeing the cranberry harvest at its top notch of production. Did you know that the cranberries that were harvested go to Ocean Spray?! How cool.  Below is a picture of the crew from 406. I hope that everyone has a wonderful wee...

Week in Review

Wow! We have been super busy here in room 406 this week. :) This week we had parent/teacher conferences. Thank you so much to those of you took the time to come in and chat with me about your wonderful students. It was so good to meet with you. Please remember that if you need anything or have any questions, comments or  concerns by door is always open and you can reach me by phone, email or just stopping in. ELA  We have been learning about the body systems this week. We have learned about the respiratory, circulatory, endocrine, and digestive systems so far. We will also start some poetry work next week. That will wrap up Unit #1 and we will begin Unit #2 within a few weeks. The students will also be able to pick a body system to do a small Powerpoint for a presentation grade. It should be a lot of fun.  MATH We took our Unit #1 Test on Thursday of this week. The students seemed to do very well on it, which makes me happy. We started Unit #2 on Friday which...

Celebrating Future Canes

We just received this notice of an awesome opportunity for the future Hurricanes of the Hayward Community Schools. Please read below and try to attend if you are able.  Thank you! :) We are asking any youngsters in Hayward K-8 that participate in ANY "extra curricular" activity, Baseball, football, Band, Choir, Drama, etc., whether or not it is a school sponsored activity to be part of our celebration of FUTURE CANES! Friday Oct. 3, 6:30 we need all of those youngsters to meet by the BIG INFLATEABLE HELMET to have the opportunity to run through the helmet onto mid field for a picture. We would like to do this every year and post the picture at the HS so when these fine students become HS students they will be able to see them... PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD BY POSTING ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER, SHARING VIA EMAIL, ETC.!   THANK YOU AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO A GREAT NIGHT!!

Exciting News

It is with great pleasure that we finally announce the new addition to the 4th grade team. We have hired Mrs. Lisa Johnson. She has 10 years of experience teaching and is returning to Hayward from Sioux Falls, SD. She has a true passion for teaching and is very dedicated to student learning. Please stop by her classroom on 10/1 from 4pm-7pm and welcome her to the HIS! We are very happy to have her with us on the Fantastic Fourth Grade Team! :)

Happy Weekend

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. The weather should be fabulous, so please enjoy it! Please remember that conferences are on Monday 9/29 and Wednesday 10/1. Double check your time to ensure it works for you. I am excited to see all of you!

LIME GREEN SHEET

THIS IS A REMINDER THAT THE LIME GREEN SHEET YOUR STUDENT BROUGHT HOME MUST BE TURNED IN BY OCTOBER 10TH. IF YOU OR YOUR STUDENT HAS LOST THIS SHEET PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL GET YOU A NEW ONE. EVERY FAMILY MUST FILL THIS OUT IN ORDER TO RECEIVE IMPACT AID FOR THE SCHOOL. THANKS!

Assignment Notebooks TONIGHT ONLY!

I have told the students that they do not have to fill out their assignment notebooks tonight due to the fact that I did not make copies for more pages in their assignment notebooks. Oops! The day got away from me. I will have these copies with me tomorrow. Please do remind your students to please study their Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing packet for the test TOMORROW!!! They should also do their math sheet 1-9 if they did not finish that. Thank you!

Conference Times

By now you should have gotten a white sheet that tells you the time of your child's parent/teacher conferences.  These will either take place 9/29 or 10/1 from 4-7pm. Please write this important date on your calendar. I will try my hardest to stick to the schedule as it is very tight this year and having only 15 minutes to talk we will have to do it quickly. I can keep this promise with some help from you as well. Please be on time, please be ready with questions or concerns, and please set up a time with me prior to the conferences or after the  conferences if you have something bigger to talk about or would like to talk longer than the given times for the conferences. I am available in the mornings (7:45-8:00) by phone, email or in person and the same goes for the afternoon (3:15-4:00). I also have prep every day at 10:00am and can usually be found in my room. Thank you for your help and cooperation in this matter. :)

Lime Green Sheet

There was a lime green sheet sent home for Impact Aid. Please fill this out as best you can have your student return it to me or the office no later than October 10th, 2014.

School is Cool :)

What's going on in room 406!?  Good Afternoon Families, It has been a busy, busy 4 weeks here in fourth grade. We have hit the ground running with all of our academics. Below you will find an update on math, ELA, and writing.  In math we are working through the Unit #1 dealing with place value, adding and subtracting to the millions place. I will be sending home a parent letter which will show you the different strategies we are learning. Please look for that in your child's blue assignment notebook/folder. It should help with any questions or  concerns your or your child are having.  Each unit comes with quick quizzes that are to be administered at certain points of the chapters. These quizzes are 5 questions (not totally 5 points) and are a quick snap shot of your student of how they are doing with the material thus far. These quick quizzes are graded. We have had two so far of the three that need to be taken in Chapter #1.  In ELA we have...

When I say Hayward, you say Hurricanes!

Hurricane Homecoming Week is coming to an end tomorrow, but it won't be leaving without a bang! There will be a parade starting behind the HIS and going down 5th Street to Main Street starting at 2:30pm. We, as a school, will be watching from the sidewalk on 5th Street. Then at 7:00pm there will be the kick-off to the Hurricane Homecoming Football Game. We are up against the Ladysmith Lumberjacks. It should be an awesome game, so I hope we can see you all there. :) Also, PLEASE remind your student to wear BLACK & GOLD TOMORROW to help support the Hurricanes. If your student does not have any school colors, please have them come to me and we will figure something out for them.  Happy Homecoming Week!!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Your student was sent home with a GREEN conference sheet today. Please take a moment and fill this out and send it back to school as soon as you possibly can. I am now becoming aware that I have a lot of students who have siblings in the lower grades. I have been in contact with their teachers and we will work together to make the conferences times as feasible as we can. But, please be understanding if there is for some reason a chance that your children's conferences are either not scheduled on the same day or are more than 15-20 minutes apart on the same day. We are trying our best. Thank you for this cooperation. :)

Homecoming Events

This week, as many of you may know, is Homecoming Week for the Hayward Hurricanes. We, here at the HIS, will be partaking in a few Homecoming festivities. Our PAC is graciously building a float for us to be represented in the parade with. On Friday, September 19th at 9:00 the HIS will hold their own Homecoming Pep-Rally where members of the HHS band, choir and sports teams will join us in cheering the Hurricane Football Team on towards a WIN Friday night (game at 7pm at the football field behind the High School). Also, we will be out on 5th Street watching the Homecoming Parade at 2:00pm.

Homecoming Sales

This is a reminder that the Canes Pro Shop will be selling beads and tattoos in honor of Homecoming Week. The beads will be $2.00 and the tattoos will be $1.00. If your child is interested in buying these items they will be for sale at 7:45am tomorrow until Friday. Thank you!

Remembering 9/11

Today in class we did a craft-tivity dealing with September 11th. It amazes me the knowledge the students have about this tragic event even given the fact that they were not even born at the time of the attack. We watched a short video, had a great discussion and made an art project. The students really seemed to enjoy it. :) Henry was so kind to model his project for us.

Wow! What a morning!!

Hi! I would like to thank each and everyone of you as parents/guardians for being so patient and understanding this morning. The weather that we had sent the schools for quite a loop, but with the help of Paul and the bus company, Mr. Olson, Mrs. Lee and many others we got it all handled and we are proud to say that all of our students were safe and sound. Thank you for your help! It really makes it a lot easier when a tragedy or an emergency like this happens and we can all work together for the common good..which is OUR KIDS! We truly appreciate it all. Please also thank and make sure you tell your students what a great job they did. It was amazing to see the respect, responsibility and safety that each student had during this crazy time. They did such a great job and you should be very proud. :)

First Day of School!

What a crew!!

Ms. Kelsey to Mrs. Cummings

Yay! September 2nd is here! :) Welcome back to school! I am so excited to have your student in my class this year. I am also very excited to be working with you as the parent or guardian for my students to ensure a fabulous fourth grade year! I have met some of you already at open house last Thursday. Thank you so much for taking the time to come in to the classroom and get acquainted. It was wonderful meeting you all. Don't forget to return all of the paperwork you picked up as soon as you can! Those of you who I did not get the privilege to meet at open house, please be looking for quite a bit of paperwork coming home with your students these next couple days. It is imperative that you go through it all, especially the Welcome Packet. Your student will have information and directions on how to fill out the back sheet. Please return all of the paperwork to either me or Mrs. Gay in the front office. This year is going to be a wonderful year. It is my second year teaching! ...

May 28th, 2014

We will be going on a field trip tomorrow. We are going to see a Scheer's Lumberjack Show and then having a picnic lunch at Shue's Pond if the weather cooperates. If your child has signed up to receive a sack lunch from the the school they are all set. If you child did not sign up to receive a sack lunch from the school, THEY are responsible for bringing a cold lunch in a disposable paper bag.   We WILL NOT be here for school lunch, so please be sure your child has something to eat! Also, there are few students who have yet to turn in their money for the trip. We sent a letter home last week sometime allowing for plenty of time to turn in the $4.50 needed to attend the show. If a student does not have this money by tomorrow morning, they are not allowed to come with us. Please make sure your child has turned in his or her money to me. Thank you! :)

Field Day!

Here are a few pictures from yesterday's events! The children had so much fun and in case you hadn't heard....WE WON TUG-O-WAR! :)

GO GOLDEN BANANAS!

Yoga!!

Today we did a little relaxation and meditation in room 406! :) The kiddos really enjoyed it.

Absence 5/1 and 5/2

I will be out of school on May 1st and May 2nd as I will be attending a Math Conference in Green Lake, Wisconsin those two days. There will be a substitute in my room who will also go on the field trip with my students on Friday. If you could please remind your students the importance of being on their best behavior while I am gone, I would really appreciate it. This will be the first time that I have been gone for an extended amount of time! As you can tell, I am a little nervous about it. :)

Friday Field Trip

This Friday, May 2nd, 2014 the fourth grade will have their very first field trip! How exciting?! We will be going to the school forest as well as planting trees. There is a lot of fun to be had this day, so please make sure that you child is here. Please remember to send your child with a jacket, rain/mud boots, and/or a hat of some sort. There is a chance it will be muddy. The students should also come in jeans or sweats...please NO SHORTS. They should bring a water bottle as well to stay hydrated. Lunch will be provided by Johnson Timber, unless you would like your child to have a school lunch, then we can make arrangements for that as well. Please just let me know. Thanks!

Field Day Shirts

Hello! Just a reminder that the field day shirt form and money is due on Thursday, April 17th, 2014. I am aware that the letter that was sent home said April 25th, 2014, but I'd like it to be here a little earlier so I can turn it in as soon as possible. I will still accept money up until the 25th, but if it is at all possible to get the money to me before Easter Break it would be much appreciated. Thank you! :)

Weather

Please be advised that here in the Sawyer County and Washburn County areas we are under a Winter Storm Warning. This storm is predicted to produce 12-15 inches of snow in some areas. There will be low visibility. The storm is set to start around Thursday afternoon and go into Friday. The main accumulation of snow is expected between Thursday at midnight into Friday until noon. Please be careful traveling and take necessary precautions. Please also watch the news, listen to the radio or pay attention to your phone in case of a a school closing for Friday 4/4. Thank you!

Friday 4/4

This Friday we have a lot going on here in room 406.  In the morning at 8:30 we will be celebrating out March Madness Reading Competition. We are also having our Third Quarter Party with a movie day. Students are invited to bring in blankets, pillows and wear pajamas. They can also bring in a snack and something to drink, but please make sure it has a twist top on it and NO POP! Furthermore, here in our classroom, we are celebrating the StAR readers of 3rd quarter with an ice cream treat. Those students who made their AR goal of 100% of their points are asked to bring in a topping as I will be supplying the ice cream, spoons and bowls. Please congratulate your child if he/she made her goal and will be participating in this party. Lots of fun!! :) I am excited to end the week with a little "sunshine" in 4th grade, even though we will be full of snow! yuk! Thank you for your help in all of this. It is truly appreciated.

Smarter Balanced Assessment

Most of you have probably heard from your student that yesterday and today they took what is called a Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). In essence, this assessment is equivalent to the Wisconsin Knowledge and Comprehensive Exam (WKCE) that we are all very familiar with. This assessment that the students took this week was just a PRACTICE test to ensure that all is working smoothly and to get some feedback on how the test worked, what the students thought, etc.  We will not get feedback on the scores.  I encourage those who are interested to research the SBA and look at the findings and such that the state and other trained professionals have published. This will allow you to become better acquainted with the assessment and help you understand more thoroughly why the HCSD is using the SBA.

Birthday Celebrations

Don't you just love birthdays! I sure do, which is why I am sending home three calendar months (April, May and June) that will list all of the birthdays left to celebrate. I have realized that quite a few of my students were born in the summer months, meaning that they do not get to have a birthday in school! So, along with the regularly scheduled birthday parties, I have added in all the summer birthdays as well to ensure those students get a chance to have a special day here in school! :) Not everyone is getting these calendars, so please ask your students if they received one from me today (i.e. those students who have birthdays in either April-July will have them). Thanks for your help!

Field Day Shirts

I can't believe that we are talking about Field Day already especially because we have too much snow still! But, I sent home a Field Day Order Form for 2013-2014 Field Day shirts. The cost is $5 and the design of the shirt will be picked later as the art class is having a competition for the best art work submitted. Please have your child turn in their Field Day Order Form with $5 no later than   April 25th, 2014 . Field Day will be on May 21st, 2014 this year. How exciting. :)

Warmer Weather

As the weather is beginning to warm up we are seeing a lot of students coming to school ill prepared for what could happen weather wise. Please make sure you student has at least a light jacket, gloves and rain boots or snow boots. Because of all of the snow, it is going to be wet and mucky outside and our nurse does not have enough supplies to give out to the students with wet pants, wet shoes, etc. Also, please have a talk with you students about their choices outside. We are having a lot of student who are not prepared for outside going into the snow, down the wet slides and they come inside and either have to sit for the rest of the day in wet clothes or need to borrow from the nurse, which as I said before she has very limited supplies. I would also urge everyone to wash all the winter clothes (boots, snow pants, jackets, gloves ,etc.) as it has begun to become quite smelly in the hallway due to wet, damp and stinky clothes. Thanks for your help! :)

What's going on in room 406?

Hey! Hi! Hello!  Welcome Spring! :) Now if only this yucky snow can go away, right?! We are getting to the end of the school year. I can hardly believe it. We only have 55 days left of 4th grade. Wow! We have a lot to get accomplished in the next 11+ weeks. We have been very busy as usual up until today.  In math we have conquered our measurement and data unit. Unit #5 was pretty fun because it gave the students something concrete and hands-on to think about. We had a little trouble with conversions, but for the most part the class did very well with converting customary units of measurement as well as metric units of measurement. As I am sure you have noticed we have jumped right into fractions with unit #6. This math book really takes the idea of fractions, breaks it apart step-by-step in order to get the students thinking and understanding the concept of fractions. I remember when I was little, I really did not like fractions much at all. So making this has pai...

Classroom News

This week in room 406 has been another great week. It was a totally normal, uninterrupted 5 days which was marvelous! In Math we have finished out unit on measurement (#5). Your student has learned all of the metric system measurements (grams, liters, meters) and all of the customary system (inches, feet, yards, miles, pounds/tons, gallons, cups, pints, ounces) (USA) measurements. We had fun with our conversions and the students really seemed to enjoy the lessons and enrichment activities we did in class. Thank you for your help with the homework and such as well! :) On Monday your student will be receiving a Unit #5 Review. We will have most of the math class to work on the problems together and it will be due Tuesday. On Tuesday we will go over the review together as a class and I will be answering any questions the students have. Once we go through this the students will be responsible for bringing it home, studying the material and having the review signed by a parent or guardi...

Measurement Activity

To conclude our Unit #5 Measurement in math we spent the morning practicing our measuring skills....on each other! The students had to measure their partner's legs, arms, torso, shoulder span, head and total height in inches (customary) and centimeters (metric). After they go the measurements they needed to convert the inches to feet and yards and the centimeters in to meters and kilometers. They had a great time!! :)

Classroom Reminders--Important

Hello! As the snow is melting we are all getting very excited for the spring weather and months ahead (hopefully...). Although I am also very excited to be seeing some green grass and getting outside more, I have been noticing that some of my students are becoming a bit lax with their homework/getting assignment notebooks signed or even filling them out in the classroom at the end of the day. At the beginning of their year, you may have noticed that a lot of the students just had reading and flashcards/math sheet for homework. While this is true on most days, ever so often there are times where the students need to do some ELA work at home. This may include spelling, answering questions for the book we are reading in class, projects, etc. I write all of the homework on the homework board daily. I then ask all students to write down (word for word) what I have written down so they do not forget what their responsibilities are homework wise at home. I have noticed this not happenin...

Reminders from the HIS office

There has been as school calendar change. Please remember that school WILL BE in session on April 17th and April 21st. These are NO LONGER vacation days due to the number of inclement weather days we have had so far. The window for open enrollment is now open. If you know of someone interested in open enrollment please have them call the central office at (715) 638-9001. We have had an unusually high number of students that are leaving before the end of the school day. Please know that learning takes place throughout the entire day and leaving early is a disruption to the entire class. We understand appointments are sometimes necessary but please schedule them outside of the school day whenever possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this. Feel free to call our office if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a marvelous March!
