Thanksgiving Break

The HCSD will be closed the week of November 24th-28th for Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Monday, December 1st. See you all there! I can't believe the holiday season is upon us already!

Deer Heart

Maddie Woller brought in a deer heart to show us in honor of the Wisconsin deer rifle season starting tomorrow. It was pretty cool to see it. Ask you students what they thought of it. Good luck to all hunters! Shoot straight!

Free Time Friday 11/21--Electronics

I am allowing electronics to be brought in to the classroom tomorrow for our free-time Friday as it is the last day before Thanksgiving Break. Please remind your student though that if they do bring in a device, I am not responsible for it. They are responsible for the device if it happen to get broken, stolen or lost. Thank you!

Warm Clothes

Winter is upon us! Please make sure that your student is prepared with snow pants, coats, hats, gloves, boots and anything else that would keep them very warm. I also am requiring the kiddos to wear at least boots, jackets, hats, and gloves at the end of the day to the bus or pick-up. This is truly just a safety issue. Thank you!!!

HCSD CLOSING

THE HCSD WILL BE CLOSING AT OR AROUND 11:30 TODAY DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER. WE WILL BE SERVING LUNCH TODAY AND STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AFTER EVERYONE HAS EATEN. PLEASE CALL THE SCHOOL IF YOU HAVE ALTERNATIVE PLANS FOR YOUR STUDENT(S). THANK YOU!

1st Quarter Reward Party

The 4th grade will be having their 1st Quarter Reward Party on Monday. We will be having a dodgeball tournament (pod #1 vs. pod #2) in the morning and then in the afternoon students get a choice of either a game room, craft room or a Just Dance on the Wii room. Students who are able to participate have shown they can be responsible, be respectful and be safe during the whole 1st quarter. Those who are allowed to go also have 75% of their tickets for the quarter. Those who do not have 75% of their tickets for the quarter do not get to participate as a consequence of losing too many tickets due to not completing assignments, bad choices/behavior, etc. and will be required to do their make-up work in another room.

Veterans Day Essay Winners

Congratulations to Michael Isham and Zach Laier for having their essays chosen as winners. Also, kudos to everyone else who turned in an essay. Good Job! You hard work did not go unnoticed. We are proud of you for learning about Veterans Day and those who serve or have served. :)

Spelling and Vocabulary

Dear Families! Starting this past week you may have noticed that you student brought home a list of 20 spelling words. In class we have begun doing spelling work and vocabulary work. The 15 spelling words are words that have a common spelling pattern/rule which we are learning about for a specific week. The 5 Bonus/Vocabulary Words are from a list of words that all 4th graders should know by the end of the year. The lists are handed out on Monday and the test will be given on Friday. A simple spelling test is given for all words and then a vocabulary (matching word to definition and then using the word correctly in a sentence) is given for the 5 vocabulary words. Your student is responsible for studying these words at school and at home. I have built in word work stations here at school where they have a checklist of responsibilities and activities that must be completed by the end of the week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Flu Bug

The flu bug has hit the HIS full force and we have been sending children home due to vomiting left and right. If your child is sick...please do not send them to school...we would rather them get healthy and make up the work than to come to school ill and pass the sickness on to other students and staff. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. STAYING HEALTHY 'LIKE A CANE!'

REMINDERS FROM THE OFFICE

**Please be sure that your children are dressed properly for the cold winter months. We have recess every day. **Please call the office with after school plans/changes before 2:00pm whenever possible.

Happy Halloween!
