Weekend Meals

Unfortunately it has been brought to our attention as teachers that the students who are receiving the weekend meals every Friday are not respecting the program or the bag of goodies they get to bring home. The bus drivers have brought to our attention that the students are opening the bags and wasting the food. While they are not only wasting the meals, they are making a huge mess on the bus. This is a serious issue. All of the students in the Intermediate and Primary buildings were spoken to today by Mrs. Lee and were given strict instructions on how to handle their meals every Friday. If we get more complaints from the bus drivers, the students responsible will lose their weekend meals.

TV!!

Mrs. Marienfeld's classroom had an unexpected visit today from Fox 21 News. They came in to the room and filmed a math lesson (per Mrs. Lee's permission) that she and the students were going through for the day. We are not exactly sure why they came in to film, but have been told that it will air tonight on Fox 21. If you are free during their normal news casting hours, please tune in and check it out! :) What an honor to have one of our very own 4th grade classrooms on TV!!!

Veteran's Day Essay

Good Afternoon! Your student brought home a packet of information pertaining to the Veteran's Day Essay Contest going on right now. It is due November 4th. Two winners will be chosen to read their essays to the school and community during the Veteran's Day Assembly on November 11th. Please encourage your student to write an essay. I have a few turned in already and they are really good. The students got the instructions on what to do, but basically they are answering the overarching question of "What does Veteran's Day mean to you?" Good Luck!

What's up?

This week was a very busy week here in 4th grade. Wednesday was an Early Release day, but we also had a special visit from the Hayward Fire Department. Three firemen/women came to show and talk to our students about the importance of fire safety. They seemed to have a great time learning about fire prevention and much, much more. Mrs. Marienfeld even got to show the students how to climb the ladder on the truck up to the big bucket! She said it was awesome. While learning about Fire Prevention, we also learned about Cranberries...a Wisconsin tradition and favorite. We learned about how cranberries are harvested and we even got to visit the Zawistowski Cranberry Marsh on Thursday. It was a great field trip and we all really enjoyed being outside seeing the cranberry harvest at its top notch of production. Did you know that the cranberries that were harvested go to Ocean Spray?! How cool.  Below is a picture of the crew from 406. I hope that everyone has a wonderful wee...

The students will also be able to pick a body system to do a small Powerpoint for a presentation grade. It should be a lot of fun.  MATH We took our Unit #1 Test on Thursday of this week. Celebrating Future Canes

We just received this notice of an awesome opportunity for the future Hurricanes of the Hayward Community Schools. Please read below and try to attend if you are able.  Thank you! :) We are asking any youngsters in Hayward K-8 that participate in ANY "extra curricular" activity, Baseball, football, Band, Choir, Drama, etc., whether or not it is a school sponsored activity to be part of our celebration of FUTURE CANES! Friday Oct. 3, 6:30 we need all of those youngsters to meet by the BIG INFLATEABLE HELMET to have the opportunity to run through the helmet onto mid field for a picture. We would like to do this every year and post the picture at the HS so when these fine students become HS students they will be able to see them... PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD BY POSTING ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER, SHARING VIA EMAIL, ETC.!   THANK YOU AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO A GREAT NIGHT!!
