Hello! As the snow is melting we are all getting very excited for the spring weather and months ahead (hopefully...). Although I am also very excited to be seeing some green grass and getting outside more, I have been noticing that some of my students are becoming a bit lax with their homework/getting assignment notebooks signed or even filling them out in the classroom at the end of the day.
At the beginning of their year, you may have noticed that a lot of the students just had reading and flashcards/math sheet for homework. While this is true on most days, ever so often there are times where the students need to do some ELA work at home. This may include spelling, answering questions for the book we are reading in class, projects, etc.
I write all of the homework on the homework board daily. I then ask all students to write down (word for word) what I have written down so they do not forget what their responsibilities are homework wise at home.
I have noticed this not happening more times than not. Students are just writing flashcards and reading. This could be correct, but it is imperative that you ask your students if this is really all the homework they have, just to double check.
Please sign the assignment notebook (ask to see it) EVERY DAY!!! This is a great communication tool for you and me and it lets you know what is going on in the classroom day to day. If your student does not have their homework to do at home or they do not do it, do not sign tthe notebook, because that means they didn't do it. I have been finding a lot of signatures, but no homework done (i.e. math sheets, reading, etc.). This is a problem.
This assignment notebook is also where all the important papers go as well as where they should be keeping their homework to transfer from school to home and back.

Thank you for your help with this. I appreciate all of my parents!
