Hello!
I introduced the RED (read every day) folders today at then end of the day and things may have gotten a little confusing for some students! So, I am here to clarify a few things!
There are two scenarios for this RED Folder: 1. your child will be given an A to Z book in their Lexile ZPD level OR 2. your student will read their chosen AR book.
Here are the nightly responsibilities for said scenarios.
Best,
I introduced the RED (read every day) folders today at then end of the day and things may have gotten a little confusing for some students! So, I am here to clarify a few things!
There are two scenarios for this RED Folder: 1. your child will be given an A to Z book in their Lexile ZPD level OR 2. your student will read their chosen AR book.
Here are the nightly responsibilities for said scenarios.
Scenario #1: A to Z Book
Your student will be responsible for bringing said RED Folder to and from school each day. Your student will be given an A to Z book at their Lexile ZPD level that is calculated from their STAR Reading score. They will take this book home and practice reading it with a parent, guardian, sibling, etc. Once they feel comfortable reading it then they will fill out the reading log and ask for your signature and bring the book and folder back to school. I will then listen to them read the book, give them a sticker if they rock it and switch out the books for one at a higher level. These are the TRUE rules and regulations written in the RED Folder. So, just follow those and you will be golden! There are currently two groups in this scenario!
Scenario #2: AR Book
Your student will also be responsible for bringing said RED Folder two and from school each day. They are to read out of their chosen AR book as much as they would like (I usually assign 10 minutes.) Once they are done reading they are to ask you (parent, guardian, sibling, etc.) to ask them some comprehension questions about the portion of the book they read that night. I DO NOT expect these students to finish a book each night. They are to only to write down the book and pages they read, have a parent/guardian sign it and then I will check the folders the following morning. The only difference in this scenario is that the students in this group will be working on a book for longer periods of time...not the short books I send home with the other two groups.
I hope this helps clarify some misunderstandings. Call or email of you have any further questions. I will also clarify with students tomorrow. Sorry for an inconvenience....I totally did not mean for it to be so confusing.
Best,
Mrs. Cummings
